Book Review: Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

Last week I had the opportunity to catch the Belles on Wheels tour stop in The Woodlands. I was initially devastated that I was going to miss this event due to Bean’s 4th grade musical but I made things happen. I have to admit that I “drove like a Cullen” all the way to the event because I HAD TO MEET Christina and Lauren. They don’t come to Texas everyday, y’all!! I’m pretty sure I was a crazy fangirl but I was so happy to finally meet the girls I met online years ago. Christina and Lauren are the sweetest, prettiest, huggiest girls I’ve ever met. Watching these girls interact with each other was so precious….they are definitely besties for evah!

Thanks, sweet girls! Loved your hugs and sweet words. You’ve made a friend forever!

One-night stands are supposed to be with someone convenient, or wickedly persuasive, or regrettable. They aren’t supposed to be with someone like him.

But after a crazy Vegas weekend celebrating her college graduation—and terrified of the future path she knows is a cop-out—Mia Holland makes the wildest decision of her life: follow Ansel Guillaume—her sweet, filthy fling—to France for the summer and just…play.

When feelings begin to develop behind the provocative roles they take on, and their temporary masquerade adventures begin to feel real, Mia will have to decide if she belongs in the life she left because it was all wrong, or in the strange new one that seems worlds away.

My Thoughts

Christina and Lauren have given us another beautiful story with characters we fall in love with.   You think Mia is your typical college grad out to have a bit of fun in Vegas with her girlfriends but the fun becomes extraordinary when they meet Ansel and his friends. After a very INTERESTING evening (which YOU MUST READ ABOUT) Mia needs to decide if she will continue to keep hot, swoon-worthy Ansel in her life. Duh….no brainer for me. Summer in Paris with a handsome, sexy man. Does that make YOU swoon? It definitely makes ME swoon.   Ansel and Mia have great chemistry. HOT stuff! Sweet Filthy Boy is fun, sexy and a great read that I know you will LOVE!

 About the Author 3

Lauren Billings (but everyone calls her Lo) has a Ph.D. in neuroscience and before she made writing her full-time job, would spend her days doing nerdy research-type things wearing a lab coat and goggles. She is silly Mommy to two littles, wife to one mountain biking homebrewing scientist, bestie to a shoe-stealer, and an unabashed lover of YA and romance.

Christina Hobbs (but you’ll always hear Lo call her PQ) used to spend her days in a junior high counseling office surrounded by teenagers. Married to the cutest boy in school, she has a thirteen year old daughter, is an unapologetic lover of boy bands and glitter, and also likes to steal Lo’s shoes.

WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN

I’m really excited to share my review for Kristin Rae’s debut WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN! I met Kristin last year at Austin Teen Book Festival and have kept in touch with her. I now consider her a very sweet friend and I’m ecstatic that the world is now going to get to read this adorable story.

Synopsis 4

Pippa has always wanted to go to Italy … but not by herself. And certainly not to sit in art school the entire summer learning about dead guys’ paintings. When she steps off the plane in Rome, she realizes that traveling solo gives her the freedom to do whatever she wants. So it’s arrivederci, boring art program and ciao, hot Italian guys!

Charming, daring, and romantic, Bruno is just the Italian Pippa’s looking for—except she keeps running into cute American archeology student Darren everywhere she goes. Pippa may be determined to fall in love with an Italian guy … but the electricity she feels with Darren says her heart might have other plans. Can Pippa figure out her feelings before her parents discover she left the program and—even worse—she loses her chance at love?

My Thoughts

Have you read a book that immediately makes you want to go on an adventure? To explore new places? To make new friends? I felt all these things and more when I read WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN! The descriptions of the beautiful destinations made me want to jump on a plane to Italy. It is obvious Kristin Rae has a love for Italy and that she’s definitely seen all the destinations she so beautifully describes. I thought Pippa was sweet and brave. On her adventures, she makes wonderful friends, takes LOTS of pictures, eats GELATO and meets two swoony boys. What more could you want?!?

WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN is an adorable story! You’ll love it. It is delightful and sweet just like the GELATO Pippa loves to eat!

Review: Love Like The Movies by Victoria Van Tiem

Review

LoveLikeThe Movies

By: Victoria Van Tiem

Release Date: February 24, 2014
Source: From Publisher to Review

It’s Oscars Week!  I can’t wait to watch the red carpet arrivals and the broadcast.  I love movies almost as much as I love books.  Even though romantic comedies aren’t generally nominated for Academy Awards (what a shame!), I do loves me some rom-com.  I’m pretty sure Pretty Woman is my all time favorite but I admit it is hard to choose.  When I received this book from Simon & Schuster I was thrilled because the story is so many things I love rolled into one.  Sweet!

In this debut novel, movie fanatic Kensington Shaw is thrown into love—Hollywood-style—when her gorgeous ex presents a series of big screen challenges to win back her heart.

What girl wouldn’t want to experience the Pretty Woman shopping scene? It’s number two on the list. Or, try the lift from Dirty Dancing? It’s number five. One list, ten romantic movie moments, and a handful of shenanigans later, Kenzi has to wonder…should she marry the man her family loves, or risk everything for a love like the movies?

What great timing!  This story hit me on just the right day and it was exactly what I needed.  I was hooked into the story of Kensington Shaw from the first few pages.  She LOVES romantic comedies just like me!  Kenzi is a romantic and she’s a pleaser.  She wants everyone to be happy with her and her choices even if she might not be.  Kenzi is engaged to the “safe guy” and ready to start the life that is expected of her.  Craziness commences and someone from her past reappears causing her life to be turned upside down.  I swooned and I laughed and I had such a great time with this book.  I know you’ll love it too!

Beautiful Player — Book Review and Giveaway

Beautiful Player-cover2

By: Christina Lauren

Published by: Gallery Books
Release Date: October 29, 2013
Source: From Publisher to Review

In the third book in the Beautiful Bastard series, an agreement between a venture capitalist and a bookish woman quickly becomes a very NSFW version of My Fair Lady.

When Hanna “Ziggy” Bergstrom moves to New York City for graduate school, Will Sumner thinks his responsibilities to his best friend’s nerdy little sister will be limited to the occasional dinner and check-in. Little does he know that Ziggy is ready to break out of her bookworm academic shell and move more into bombshell territory. Of course she figures the gorgeous womanizing venture capitalist Will is the best person to help mentor her in this new field of study: dating.

Will takes on the challenge with more than a healthy dose of skepticism and humor, but soon finds that Ziggy just needed a tiny push, not a world of change, to reveal a woman every man seems to notice. Soon “Ziggy” is gone and the unfiltered, innocently seductive Hanna Bergstrom is hijacking his dreams, his moods, and even his orderly no-strings-attached dating life—beginning the night his mentoring activities move between the sheets.

I’m completely in love with the Beautiful Bastard series of books.  I devoured both Beautiful Bastard and Beautiful Stranger.  For the third book in the series, I really savored Beautiful Player.  I’ve loved all of the male characters but I think I’ve found my favorite in Will Sumner.  He is equal parts swoony boy and attractive leading man.  I also found I can really relate to Hanna and all her derp.  (I laughed out loud when I actually read the word derp.)  Will is supposed to be mentoring her but I feel like she is really teaching him more than he thought he would ever need to know about women.  Their friendship seems so normal and complicated and just the way real life tends to be.  I cheered for Hanna and Will and I know you will too.
