Synopsis 4

Izzy Dalton’s about to strike out. Her new job as the sideline reporter for the Portland Pioneers major league baseball team is problematic on several levels:

  1. Baseball is her least-favorite sport. Falling behind golf, tennis, and maybe even curling.
  2. What Izzy knows about baseball could fill about three minutes of airtime.
  3. Her last experience in front of a camera was in college. Six years ago.
  4. The Pioneers’ second baseman has a wicked sense of humor and even wickeder blue eyes.

Jack Bennett couldn’t be more uninterested in a little sideline action. He just wants to show up at the park and win baseball games. Izzy is the one woman he should steer clear of, but she’s also the key to his success–and his heart, too.

All Izzy has to do is convince her misogynistic boss she’s competent, learn what the heck an RBI is, and stay away from Jack Bennett. Izzy tells herself it’ll be a snap, but 162 games is longer than she ever imagined and Jack more irresistible than she counted on.

My ThoughtsI love baseball and I love romance.  I was really excited to get to read and review a book that combined the two.  Many sports romance books have a predictable plot and boring characters.  THE LUCKY CHARM was a delightfully, refreshing story.  Izzy is a sweet girl who is thrown into a job that she doesn’t care to do.  I love that the author did not transform her into a plastic beauty in order for her to do her job.  Izzy meets Jack Bennett and he’s not the good looking golden boy ball player.  Jack’s the normal guy who lives and loves baseball.  It was very refreshing that the two main characters didn’t fall in love at first sight and then fall in bed within moments of meeting each other.  THE LUCKY CHARM is a fun read with believable characters and a romance that felt very natural.

About the Author 3

Beth Bolden lives in Portland, Oregon with one cat and one fiance. She wholly believes in Keeping Portland Weird, but wishes she didn’t have to make the yearly pilgrimage up to Seattle to watch her Boston Red Sox play baseball. If only the Portland Pioneers weren’t only figments of her imagination.

After graduating from university with a degree in English, Beth unsurprisingly had no idea what to do with her life, and spent the next few years working for a medical equipment supplier, a technology company, and an accounting firm. Now Beth runs her own business as a Girl Friday for small business owners, assisting them with administration, bookkeeping and their general sanity.

Beth has been writing practically since she learned the alphabet. Unfortunately, her first foray into novel writing, titled Big Bear with Sparkly Earrings, wasn’t a bestseller, but hope springs eternal. Her first novel, The Lucky Charm, will be available in the beginning of 2014.

In her nonexistent spare time, she enjoys preparing overambitious recipes, baking yummy treats, cuddling with the aforementioned cat and fiance, and of course, writing. She’s currently at work on the The Lucky Charm‘s sequel, featuring Noah Fox. She hopes he’s a lot easier to wrangle than Jack Bennett was.

Book Review: Girl Lost by Nazarea Andrews

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000026_00025]Add to Goodreads 2BY: Nazarea Andrews

RELEASE DATE: May 1, 2014

Synopsis 4

Northern was supposed to be a fresh start—a place where people didn’t know who I was or how I had spent years in and out of mental institutes. People didn’t know about my parents death or the island no one heard of. But when Peter sits next to me in lit class, I can’t stop the memories, and I don’t want to. He looks too much like the boy from the island, and despite my best intentions, coaxes my secrets from me.

He’s gorgeous, irresistible, a little mad, and completely lost—we are a pair of broken cogs in a world neither of us truly fits into. He is somehow gentle and fierce, heartbreaking in his devotion and savage in his defense.

When Belle, his best friend, shows up, pale and lovely and sick, Peter pulls away from me, a startling withdrawal. It’s a relationship that scares and confuses me. She is at times warm and friendly, and other times is violent and unpredictable.

Peter says that he wants me, but refuses to let himself get close. And there are secrets, surrounding both of us, that border on nightmares. As the memories close in, as Belle gets sicker and more violent, I’m torn between what is true and what I believe, and what this magical boy knows about my mysterious past.

My Thoughts

“There are a few things you should know about me, to start. I am Gwendolyn, the eldest daughter of Piers Barrie. I am a college freshman, and an heiress.

And, I am quite mad.”

What a start to the story!  What a beautiful book cover!

Let me just say that I’m a Peter Pan fan. In fact my family has been pretty immersed in the whole Peter Pan thing as my hubs and daughter just did the musical version in the spring. We’ve watched and read SO MANY versions of this story lately that I wasn’t sure I was going to be surprised with this story. Boy was I wrong! This definitely is not a version I’ve heard before. Gwendolyn IS a GIRL LOST…lost in her head, lost in her family, lost in life. She’s in school and in “recovery” mode but is she? Gwen has “seen” The Boy her whole life but was he real or just her imagination. When she’s at school and sees a real boy that looks like The Boy, she’s drawn to him.   I enjoyed this story but expected more. I wasn’t quite sure about trusting Peter. I kept waiting for something more sinister to happen so the story kept me on high alert. This was a fun read but based on the ending I wonder if the author has more to say…maybe??

GIRL LOST wasn’t a retelling of an old story. It felt a bit like an epilogue to the original…with a fun, crazy twist.

Book Review: Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

Last week I had the opportunity to catch the Belles on Wheels tour stop in The Woodlands. I was initially devastated that I was going to miss this event due to Bean’s 4th grade musical but I made things happen. I have to admit that I “drove like a Cullen” all the way to the event because I HAD TO MEET Christina and Lauren. They don’t come to Texas everyday, y’all!! I’m pretty sure I was a crazy fangirl but I was so happy to finally meet the girls I met online years ago. Christina and Lauren are the sweetest, prettiest, huggiest girls I’ve ever met. Watching these girls interact with each other was so precious….they are definitely besties for evah!

Thanks, sweet girls! Loved your hugs and sweet words. You’ve made a friend forever!

Synopsis 4

One-night stands are supposed to be with someone convenient, or wickedly persuasive, or regrettable. They aren’t supposed to be with someone like him.

But after a crazy Vegas weekend celebrating her college graduation—and terrified of the future path she knows is a cop-out—Mia Holland makes the wildest decision of her life: follow Ansel Guillaume—her sweet, filthy fling—to France for the summer and just…play.

When feelings begin to develop behind the provocative roles they take on, and their temporary masquerade adventures begin to feel real, Mia will have to decide if she belongs in the life she left because it was all wrong, or in the strange new one that seems worlds away.

My Thoughts

Christina and Lauren have given us another beautiful story with characters we fall in love with.   You think Mia is your typical college grad out to have a bit of fun in Vegas with her girlfriends but the fun becomes extraordinary when they meet Ansel and his friends. After a very INTERESTING evening (which YOU MUST READ ABOUT) Mia needs to decide if she will continue to keep hot, swoon-worthy Ansel in her life. Duh….no brainer for me. Summer in Paris with a handsome, sexy man. Does that make YOU swoon? It definitely makes ME swoon.   Ansel and Mia have great chemistry. HOT stuff! Sweet Filthy Boy is fun, sexy and a great read that I know you will LOVE!

HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY to Kristin Rae’s debut

I’m really excited to share my review for Kristin Rae’s debut WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN! I met Kristin last year at Austin Teen Book Festival and have kept in touch with her. I now consider her a very sweet friend and I’m ecstatic that the world is now going to get to read this adorable story.

Synopsis 4

Pippa has always wanted to go to Italy … but not by herself. And certainly not to sit in art school the entire summer learning about dead guys’ paintings. When she steps off the plane in Rome, she realizes that traveling solo gives her the freedom to do whatever she wants. So it’s arrivederci, boring art program and ciao, hot Italian guys!

Charming, daring, and romantic, Bruno is just the Italian Pippa’s looking for—except she keeps running into cute American archeology student Darren everywhere she goes. Pippa may be determined to fall in love with an Italian guy … but the electricity she feels with Darren says her heart might have other plans. Can Pippa figure out her feelings before her parents discover she left the program and—even worse—she loses her chance at love?

My Thoughts

Have you read a book that immediately makes you want to go on an adventure? To explore new places? To make new friends? I felt all these things and more when I read WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN! The descriptions of the beautiful destinations made me want to jump on a plane to Italy. It is obvious Kristin Rae has a love for Italy and that she’s definitely seen all the destinations she so beautifully describes. I thought Pippa was sweet and brave. On her adventures, she makes wonderful friends, takes LOTS of pictures, eats GELATO and meets two swoony boys. What more could you want?!?

WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN is an adorable story! You’ll love it. It is delightful and sweet just like the GELATO Pippa loves to eat!

Review: Love Like The Movies by Victoria Van Tiem

LoveLikeThe Movies

By: Victoria Van Tiem

Release Date: February 24, 2014
Source: From Publisher to Review

It’s Oscars Week!  I can’t wait to watch the red carpet arrivals and the broadcast.  I love movies almost as much as I love books.  Even though romantic comedies aren’t generally nominated for Academy Awards (what a shame!), I do loves me some rom-com.  I’m pretty sure Pretty Woman is my all time favorite but I admit it is hard to choose.  When I received this book from Simon & Schuster I was thrilled because the story is so many things I love rolled into one.  Sweet!

In this debut novel, movie fanatic Kensington Shaw is thrown into love—Hollywood-style—when her gorgeous ex presents a series of big screen challenges to win back her heart.

What girl wouldn’t want to experience the Pretty Woman shopping scene? It’s number two on the list. Or, try the lift from Dirty Dancing? It’s number five. One list, ten romantic movie moments, and a handful of shenanigans later, Kenzi has to wonder…should she marry the man her family loves, or risk everything for a love like the movies?

What great timing!  This story hit me on just the right day and it was exactly what I needed.  I was hooked into the story of Kensington Shaw from the first few pages.  She LOVES romantic comedies just like me!  Kenzi is a romantic and she’s a pleaser.  She wants everyone to be happy with her and her choices even if she might not be.  Kenzi is engaged to the “safe guy” and ready to start the life that is expected of her.  Craziness commences and someone from her past reappears causing her life to be turned upside down.  I swooned and I laughed and I had such a great time with this book.  I know you’ll love it too!

Blog Tour & Review: Be With Me by J. Lynn

By: J.Lynn

Release Date: February 4, 2014
Source: Purchased for my library

Publisher: William Morrow/Harper Collins

Series: Wait for You #2

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

What a GREAT book!  This story had everything…..romance, mystery, humor, and schmexy times.  I really enjoyed Wait for You, the first book in this series, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one.  Cam and Avery are back for book 2 but the main story is focused on Teresa (“Tess”) and Jase.  Tess is Cam’s little sister and her world has just been turned upside down.  My first impression of her is that she would be a wallflower and pine over Jase.  She had been in an abusive relationship and was having a difficult time getting past those hurt feelings.  Boy was a wrong!  Insert Jase in her life and she is a fiery one!  Jase is a hot boy on a horse with a secret. (Oooooooo!) Tess wants more from Jase and I LOVE how she goes after what she wants.  I don’t want to give away too much because this story has several twists and turns that really surprised me.  You’re gonna love this one… me!

Review: Pretty Little Dreams by Jennifer Miller

Pretty Little Dreams cover

By: Jennifer Miller

Release Date: January 13, 2014
Source: From Author to Review

There is a place in all of us where our deepest secrets lie in wait for their moment to surface, and surface they will.

After living through a real live nightmare, Olivia wants nothing but to forget. Forget and move on. But how do you forget something that has stained your soul and forces you to lie to your loved ones? Even if your intentions are to spare them the horrors of the truth?

Luke knows Olivia is not as recovered as she would have him believe. He can see the pain she tries to keep hidden behind her eyes, and knows she has not told him everything. But how do you save someone who won’t let you in? Where shame holds Olivia captive, Luke suffers through the guilt of not protecting the one person he loves more than anything.

Can two people who have suffered so dearly find a way to come together or will they risk the dreams they have placed in each other’s hearts? Can love find a way where forgiveness cannot?

Stunned!  That was absolutely me at the end of Jennifer Miller’s debut novel Pretty Little Lies.  A cliffhanger that I totally loved!  Thankfully I didn’t have to wait too long to find out more about Olivia and Luke.  I was immediately captivated by Pretty Little Dreams from the very beginning.  I desperately wanted to know what would happen to this beautiful couple.  Jennifer did a wonderful job of telling Olivia’s and Luke’s stories through alternating points of view for each chapter.  I felt the different points of view helped give the reader much more insight into Olivia and Luke and their struggle to find their way.  Things aren’t easy for these two….but I know I would LOVE to have Luke help me when I’m down.  Olivia is a very lucky lady.  No review of this book would be complete without mentioning the wonderful best friend, Pyper.  She is a spectacular character…….loyal, fun and fabulous.  This story has so much to offer….romance, friendship, action, angst, and schmexy times too!  Pretty Little Dreams is a GREAT story!  I know you’ll love it too!
